Why visit
The museum is valuable both for its collections and for the building that contains them. Traditional clothing, crafts and household objects help explain the social world behind the old town’s merchant houses, while the rooms of Kuyumdzhioglu House provide an authentic architectural framework. Together they make the museum one of the clearest places in Plovdiv to connect decorative architecture with the everyday materials, trades and customs of 19th-century urban and rural life.
What you will see
- The curved façade and painted exterior of Kuyumdzhioglu House.
- Traditional costumes, crafts and household objects from the region.
- Interior rooms that preserve the scale and decoration of a wealthy merchant residence.
History
Kuyumdzhioglu House was built in the mid-19th century for a prosperous merchant and later adapted as the home of Plovdiv’s ethnographic collections. The building is itself a major example of National Revival domestic architecture.
