Why visit

Srebarna introduces an ecological landscape that differs completely from Bulgaria’s mountains and archaeological sites. The reserve demonstrates how the Danube floodplain supports extensive reed beds, shallow water and internationally important bird habitats. Observation is most rewarding when approached as a conservation visit rather than a guaranteed wildlife checklist, since species and visibility vary by season. Current protected-area rules should guide movement around sensitive zones and observation points.

What you will see

  • Reed beds, open water and wetland habitats.
  • Birdlife including colonial and migratory waterbirds.
  • Views across a managed Danube floodplain ecosystem.

History

Srebarna protects a shallow lake and wetland system connected historically with the Danube floodplain. It is especially known as a breeding and migration habitat for waterbirds and has been subject to long-term conservation management.
