Why visit
Kolossi makes medieval Cyprus legible through a single, well-defined fortified building. The thick walls and elevated chambers show the practical character of a commandery centre, while nearby agricultural remains connect military power with the production of valuable crops. It is an efficient complement to ancient Kourion on the same side of Limassol. The stop works especially well when placed beside nearby sites from the same region, because the contrast in landscape, architecture or historical period makes the wider character of Cyprus easier to understand.
