Why visit
The Cyprus Museum provides the broad chronological framework that individual archaeological sites cannot offer on their own. Objects from different regions can be compared in one place, making it easier to understand shifts in settlement, religion, art and trade across thousands of years. It is particularly valuable before or after visiting Paphos, Kourion, Salamis or Choirokoitia. The stop works especially well when placed beside nearby sites from the same region, because the contrast in landscape, architecture or historical period makes the wider character of Cyprus easier to understand.
What you will see
- Prehistoric pottery and sculpture.
- Archaic terracottas.
- Classical and Roman finds.

History
The museum was founded in the late 19th century and grew alongside the development of systematic archaeology on the island. Its collections draw from excavations across Cyprus.
