Why visit
Bauska Castle is worth time because it gives a direct view of the shift from medieval frontier fortification to Renaissance-era residence. The two-part complex makes changing defensive and residential priorities visible in one place, while the river confluence explains the strategic location. The visit is especially useful for travellers interested in castles and regional political history, as the physical setting makes the historical or natural context visible on the ground. Time can be concentrated on medieval ruins, ducal residence and river-confluence views. Its location in Zemgale also links naturally with nearby stops, making it a useful anchor for a regional day.
