Why visit

St Laurentius is a useful anchor for exploring Schaan on foot. Its tall tower provides a strong visual marker in a municipality that otherwise feels more urban and commercial than many Liechtenstein villages. The church also reflects nineteenth-century confidence and population growth, while the surrounding centre gives a sense of everyday life in the country’s largest settlement. A visit pairs naturally with nearby civic spaces and routes north towards the Unterland.

What you will see

  • Tall neo-Gothic tower.
  • Church interior where open.
  • Central Schaan setting.
  • Views of the church from the valley.

History

The present parish church was built in the late nineteenth century in a historicising Gothic style, replacing earlier places of worship that had served Schaan. Later maintenance and liturgical changes adapted the building while retaining its dominant tower and overall form.

Visitor tips

Allow time for the surrounding village, landscape or historic streets where these form part of the site context.

  2. 2

Check current official information before relying on a particular entrance, interior visit, parking area or mountain path.
