Why visit
Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania is worth time for its its archaeological evidence, reconstructed state rooms and explanation of court culture. The visit combines excavated foundations, galleries, reconstructed interiors and objects linked with the grand-ducal residence, making the site useful for understanding the political centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It rewards a slower look at the way archaeology and architectural reconstruction are presented together and fits naturally with Vilnius Cathedral and Gediminas Castle Tower. The experience is particularly relevant to travellers interested in state history, archaeology and historic interiors, while the setting gives the historical or natural story a clear physical context.

History
A ruler’s residence developed here from the medieval castle complex and was expanded during the Renaissance and early modern periods. The palace was largely demolished in the nineteenth century; a reconstructed building now presents the site’s archaeology and the history of the grand-ducal court.
