Why visit

Nagliai Nature Reserve is worth time for its the direct encounter with a large mobile-dune landscape under active conservation. The visit combines boardwalks and marked paths, exposed dune surfaces, lagoon views and interpretive signs, making the site useful for understanding the environmental pressures that reshaped parts of the Curonian Spit. It rewards a slower look at the boundary between access routes and protected dune habitat and fits naturally with Juodkrantė and Nida on the main Curonian Spit road. The experience is particularly relevant to travellers interested in dune ecology, conservation and coastal history, while the setting gives the historical or natural story a clear physical context.

What you will see

  • Dead Dunes landscape.
  • Marked reserve trail.
  • Views towards the Curonian Lagoon.

History

The reserve protects a section of the spit where major dune movement buried earlier settlement areas and transformed the landscape. Present management restricts access to defined routes in order to limit erosion and disturbance.
