Why visit
Panemunė Castle is worth time for its its transition from defensive-looking castle architecture to a refined estate residence overlooking a major river corridor. The visit combines courtyard ranges, round tower, exhibition rooms, ponds and park paths, making the site useful for understanding the development of noble estates along the lower Nemunas. It rewards a slower look at the balance between fortified forms and residential planning and fits naturally with Raudonė Castle and the Panemunė road corridor. The experience is particularly relevant to travellers interested in castle architecture, estate history and river landscapes, while the setting gives the historical or natural story a clear physical context.

History
The present castle was begun in the early seventeenth century and developed as a noble residence rather than a purely military fortress. Later owners altered the buildings and estate, while restoration has returned parts of the complex to cultural and visitor use.
