Why visit
Nationalmuseum provides a broad visual history that complements Stockholm’s specialist museums. Its collections range across European painting and sculpture as well as Swedish art, furniture, ceramics, glass and design, so the galleries can be used to trace both artistic exchange and changes in domestic taste. The restored museum building is itself part of the experience, with large stair halls and carefully organised gallery sequences. The location beside the inner harbour also makes it easy to relate court, city and cultural institutions within a compact part of central Stockholm without reducing the visit to a single period.
